Today I checked in for my second hospital stay, for consolidation chemotherapy. This is the second step in treating Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) before my stem cell transplant. I am officially in remission (yah!). The purpose is to kill any remaining leukemia cells and prevent a recurrence of the disease. Without consolidation chemotherapy, 90% of patients relapse.
This stay lasted from February 9-15, so of course I missed Valentine’s Day. The treatment went really well. No major side effects from the chemo. I had plenty of energy. No big deal!
